Bats erupt as baseball swamps U of A club, 20-1, 14-0

  MESA, AZ - Piling up 34 runs and 26 hits, the Mesa baseball team eclipsed the University of Arizona club team, 20-1 and 14-0, in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

  In the opener, MCC scored six runs in the first inning and coasted to the win. Drew Lawrence (So., Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek H.S.) was 3-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Jacob Boston (So., Chandler, AZ/Hamilton H.S.) also had a pair of hits, including a triple, and knocked in three. Matt Ayala (Fr., Broomfield, Colo/Legacy H.S.) was 2-2 and Kody Funderburk, Fr., Queen Creek, AZ/Queen Creek H.S.) added two hits, both doubles, and drove in two.

  In game two, Jarrad Crockett (Fr., Broomfield, Colo/Legacy H.S.) went 3-3, driving in a run. Hunter Bross (So., Scottsdale, AZ/Notre Dame Prep) had two triples and knocked in two and Mike Roberson (So., Chicago, Ill/Bartlett H.S.) homered and drove in two.

  MCC visits the Arizona Christian JV Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
