Glendale, AZ - The red hot #6 Mesa Thunderbirds football team moves its win streak to six games with a convincing win over the Glendale Gauchos Saturday night, 48-14.
For the T-Birds, this is the longest winning streak since 1991 when they finished with a 7-2 record.
Darius Aguirre started the scoring early for Mesa when he returned the first Glendale punt of the game to the house 65 yards.
After a Glendale touchdown, Jocquez Kalili busted open a 63 yard catch and run for a touchdown to extend Mesa's lead to 21-7.
Mesa's defense was again stellar and forced the Gauchos to another three and out. Ricedorff escorted Mesa down to the one yard line where CJ Leggett punched it from a yard out, giving Mesa a 28-7.
Just after the start of the second quarter, Jameer Outsey snuck in front of a Gaucho screen pass, picked it off and rambled about 50 yards for a defensive touchdown. For Outsey, this was his second pick six of the season, the first coming against Snow College in week four.
Mesa went into halftime with a 34-7 advantage.
To start the second half, the T-Birds started with the ball and Ricedorff quickly hit Dionte Sykes short over the middle but it was Sykes who sprinted pass the Glendale secondary for the 55 touchdown. Sykes second touchdown of the night extended the T-Birds lead to 41-7.
Later in the third quarter, Ricedorff found Darius Aguirre in the back of the endzone for a one handed catch to put Mesa at 48 points.
With the victory, Mesa extends its overall record to 6-1 and because it was a conference game, Mesa is now 4-0 in the Western States Football League.
Mesa will have a week off because of a bye, then they'll be on the road again after the bye at Scottsdale on October 29th at 7 p.m.
