First day results

  LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ – The Mesa men's golf team equaled its best round of the season, firing a nine-under-par 279 to trail South Mountain by one shot after the first round of the Estrella Mountain Invitational Tuesday.

  Chandler-Gilbert was six shots behind the T-Birds and Eastern Arizona one stroke farther behind in the event being played at the Wigwam G.C.

  Jake Guess shot a three-under-par 69 to pace MCC, tying for fifth place. Dayton Federley, Gage Grimes and Dean Harpe all carded a 70s to sit in a tie for ninth place.

  The tournament will conclude Wednesday.
