#6 men's golf trails by one after first day of regionals

  Gold Canyon, AZ – The sixth-ranked men's golf team trailed by just one shot after the first day of the Region I, Division II Championship at the Gold Canyon G.C. Sidewinder Course.

  Mesa shot a 287 to South Mountain's 286 with two MCC players part of a three-way tie for the lead. Austin Hardman and Ryan Porter each were even-par at 70 to share the lead with the Cougars' Leon D'Souza. Jake Guess was in a tie for fifth place with a 72 and Brad Pottle was tied for ninth at 75. Zane Smith was tied for 12th place following a 77.

  Round two takes place Friday. The winner advances to the NJCAA Division II National Championship which Mesa won last year. That will be played May 21-24 in Foley, Ala.
