Kotelianets reaches No. 4 singles semi-finals at NJCAA; No. 3 doubles does the same; team stays fourth

  PLANO, Texas - Vitalli Kotelianets (Fr., Ukraine) won his quarter-final match at No. 4 singles Wednesday and will adavnce to the semi-finals Thursday at the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis National Championship. Matches were moved indoor due to heavy rain.

  MCC reamined in fourth place with 26 points. ASA, with 36 points, leads Tyler with 35, ABCA has 33.

  Kotelianets defeated Zach Pittman, of Collin, 6-4, 6-3 and will now take on top-seeded Rasheed Carey, of ASA (NY) Thursday at 7:30 a.m., Arizona time.

  In quarter-final results: At No. 1 singles third-seeded Harry Busby (So., England) fell to seventh-seeded Nicolas Ruanat, of Vincennes, 6-2, 2-6, 3-6.

  No. 2 Max Wightman (Fr., Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain H.S.) lost to Ciro Lampasas, of Tyler, 2-6, 3-6.

  No. 3 Nick Silvestri (Fr., Scottsdale, AZ/Notre Dame Prep H.S.) lost to Stephen Watson, of ASA (Fla.), 1-6, 2-6.

  No. 4 Vitalli Kotelianets (Fr., Ukraine) won his quarter-final match against 

  No. 5 Andy Nguyen (So., Bien Hoa, Vietnam/Hamilton (AZ) H.S.) fell to third-seeded Tare Mariga, of Seward Co., 2-6, 2-6.

  No. 6 Kevin McMahon (So., Tempe, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) fell to fourth seeded Kenan Dishman, of Seminole (Okla.), 5-7, 4-6.

  Other singles matches were slated to begin at 7:30 a.m., Arizona time. 

  The No. 3 doubles semi-final between Viatlli Kotelianets (Fr., Ukraine) and Andy Nguyen (So., Bien Hoa, Vietnam/Hamilton (AZ) H.S.) and top-seeded Jonah Candelario and Vaughan Hunter, of Tyler, will be played Thursday at 11:00 a.m.
