Glendale, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds softball team secured its place in the Region I - ACCAC DII softball tournament next Friday and Saturday with a sweep of the Glendale Gauchos Tuesday afternoon.  Mesa defeated Glendale 8-6 and 6-0.

Down late in game one, Mesa rallied off four runs in the top of the 7th inning to go ahead.  Aided by five T-Bird hits, Mesa batted through the order in the 7th to secure the lead and eventually victory for game one.  In the circle was Sammy Quezada, who earned ninth win of the season.  She also helped herself at the plate in the 3rd inning but doubling in a run.

In game two, it was Gaby Lopez who pitched a one hit gem.  For Lopez, she earned the win, her 12th win of the season.  At the plate, it was Ryann Holmes and Corinna Rascon who each clubbed homeruns in the 2nd inning that padded a nice lead for Lopez for the rest of the game.  Rascon went yard first with a two-run homer followed by a three-run dinger later in the inning by Holmes.

Mesa is now 24-26 overall and 20-26 in the ACCAC.  The T-Birds will finish the season at home this coming Saturday with a double-header against Central AZ, beginning at noon.  Mesa will also be celebrating the sophomores to finish the regular season.
