Men's track and field posts three new qualifiers, women one at Mesa Invitational

Meet results

  Mesa, AZ – Three Mesa men set new qualifying standards for the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships while competing in the Mesa T-Bird Invitational Friday at John D. Riggs Stadium.

  Two of the qualifiers were brand new marks. Adrian King added his name in the long jump with a leap of 23-7 ½. Cormac McCarthy ran the 400-meter hurdles in 55.10 adding his name to MCC's list of competitors at nationals.

  In addition, Clay Campbell bettered his standard in the hammer to 189-4.

  Several others beat the NJCAA qualifying marks but had already done better this spring. Antwan Ross-Jones cleared 6-8 in the high jump, Cameron Lewis tossed the disc 154-2 and the 4x100 relay team of Jaylen Higgins, Carver Dumas, Keith Morgan, Alex Kellybrew was clocked in 41.79. In addition, Eric Cochran cleared 14-11 in the pole vault as did Riley Korcuska.

  For the MCC women, Ally Keil improved her mark in the pole vault to 11-11 3/4. Three athletes bettered the NJCAA marks but have already done better this year. Onnika Scott threw the hammer 165-6. Allyson Girard was clocked in 4:55.03 in the 1500-meters and Calla Reed cleared 11-5 3/4.

  Next up for the T-Birds is the Region I championship which Mesa will host at John D, Riggs Stadium. The multi events will be held Monday and Tuesday with all other events contested May 2 and 4.
