Women's golf opens season with win at South Mountain Invitational

  Phoenix, AZ – The Mesa women's golf team picked up right where it left off last year, winning it's 77th consecutive ACCAC tournament by taking the South Mountain Invitational Tuesday at the Villa de Paz G.C.

  MCC won by 34 shots over Chandler-Gilbert by posting a 327-322—649. CGCC had a 339-344—683 and South Mountain placed third at 372-345—717.

  Sophomore Haley Kapanicas was second individually with an 80-78—158. Sophomore Megan Fusak was two shots back in third place at 78-82—160.

  Mesa then finished with five of the top nine as sophomore Cheyanne Stewart tied for fifth carding an 84-81—165, freshman Taylor Gransen posted an 85-81—166 for eighth place and sophomore Hanna Brown finished ninth at 85-86—171.

  The T-Birds are back in action Monday and Tuesday at the Scottsdale Invitational at the Hillcrest G.C.
