Men's cross country fourth; women seventh at NAU event

  FLAGSTAFF, AZ - The Mesa men's cross country team placed fourth and the women seventh in the open division of the George Kyte Invitational sponsored by Northern Arizona University Saturday.

  Gerardo Villagomez (So., Querdaro, Mexico/Tempe (AZ) H.S.) was MCC's top finisher, placing 13th in in 24:09.3 for the 8K course. Right behind, in 14th place, was Chris Lessard (So., Maricopa, AZ/Maricopa H.S.) at 24:11.3. MCC's third finisher was Vance Johnson (So., Queen Creek, AZ/Queen Creek H.S.) who was 31st with a time of 25:10.1.

  Among the women, Karlie Kjerstad (So., Chandler, AZ/Chandler H.S.) was the T-Birds' top finisher placing 19th in 18:00.4 for the 2.6-mile course. Alejandra Nava (So., Mesa, AZ/Tempe H.S.) took 27th place in 18:27.2 while Deriann Yazzie (So., Chinle, AZ/Chinle H.S.) was 35th in 18:35.8.

  Mesa will next compete in the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson, AZ on Sept. 19.
