Women's cross country finishes 19th at NJCAA nationals; Lessard 39th among men

  LUBBOCK, Texas - The Mesa women's cross country team finished in 19th place among 36 competing teams, and MCC's Chris Lessard (So., Maricopa, AZ/Maricopa H.S.) took 39th place among 256 runners on the men's side at the NJCAA Division I cross country championships Saturday.

  Karlie Kjerstad (So., Chandler, AZ/Chandler H.S.) placed 42nd among the 274 women who ran to pace MCC. She finished the 5k in 19:16. Vicky Taverna (So., Chandler, AZ/Chandler H.S.) was 102nd in 20:17 and Beatruz Martinez was 142nd with a 20:51 clocking.

  Lessard led a two-man Mesa contingent, covering 8k in 26:23. Blake Fisher was 44th in 26:36.
