Mesa Memory: Sandra Stultz

Sandra Stultz may not be one of the most recognized names in the Mesa Athletic Hall of Fame, but her impact ranks among the highest.

Stultz played a key role in developing women's sports at Mesa Community College, across the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD), and nationally. Active in women's athletics and the NJCAA, she was critical in saving the 1992 NJCAA Volleyball Championship. When a hurricane struck Miami, the original host site, she secured facilities at Arizona State University within a week, allowing the tournament to proceed.

She began at MCC as assistant women's basketball coach from 1976–1987, with the early years predating NJCAA sponsorship of women's sports. In 1988, she became head softball coach, leading the program for nine years with a 325–125 record. During this time, she also served as adjunct faculty in Exercise Science, Sports Information Director for women's sports, and from 1984–1995, Athletic Director for women's sports.

Stultz served on the MCCCD Athletic Council, where she helped establish the Athletic Specialist position, enabling colleges to hire full-time coaches.

She was inducted into the Mesa Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.
