T-BIRD MOMENTS OF 2025-26: CROSS COUNTRY & VOLLEYBALL HONORED AT MCC'S 60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

One of the proudest moments of the 2025-26 season came as Mesa Community College recognized several of its nationally accomplished athletic programs during the college's 60th Anniversary Celebration.

During the event, MCC President Dr. Richard Daniel, Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Jeannetta Hollins, and Director of Athletics John Mulhern highlighted the continued success and impact of Thunderbird Athletics, recognizing teams and coaches who represented Mesa Community College on the national stage during the 2025 fall season.

The celebration honored the women's cross country team for capturing its second consecutive NJCAA Division II National Championship, while the men's cross country team was recognized following a fifth-place finish at the NJCAA National Championships.

The Thunderbird volleyball team was also celebrated after finishing sixth nationally at the NJCAA Division II National Championship and earning the NJCAA Sportsmanship Award.

Individual coaching accomplishments were recognized as well. Women's cross country head coach Daniel Pescador was honored after earning both NJCAA Division II West District Coach of the Year and NJCAA National Coach of the Year honors, while volleyball head coach Jordan Abalos Herrington was recognized as the NJCAA Division II West District Coach of the Year.

The recognition showcased another remarkable season for Thunderbird Athletics and highlighted the department's continued tradition of excellence during Mesa Community College's milestone 60th anniversary year.
