Mesa, AZ - In their last "tune-up" before conference play this coming weekend, the #17 Mesa Thunderbirds defeated the Benedictine University of Mesa JV squad 11-0, in front of a partially sold out crowd.
Sophomore pitcher Carter Robinson threw four innings for the T-Birds, allowing two hits while striking out seven. Jake Denham finished the final three innings of the game, also striking out seven batters.
Offensively, Mesa's Paul Steffensen hit one halfway home to Alaska, a two-run no doubter to left field, to pad Mesa's already 4-0 lead. After Connor Denning walked, Luke Patty also went yard to left field, pushing the T-Birds lead to 8-0 at that point.
The Birds would tack on three more runs in the fifth inning to finalize the 11-0 win.
With a 9-1 overall record, Mesa will begin conference play this weekend when they play Phoenix College. Friday's game will be at PC, beginning at 3 pm. Saturday's game will be at MCC, first pitch at noon.
