GateWay Community College - AZ
Mesa Community College Baseball split its ACCAC series with GateWay Community College, dropping the opener before responding with a win in game two at home.
Game 1
The Thunderbirds were held scoreless in a 2-0 loss in the series opener despite limiting GateWay's offense for much of the game.
Mesa managed four hits on the day, including a double from Isaac Low, but could not capitalize on scoring opportunities. GateWay broke through with a run in the third inning and added an insurance run late to secure the shutout.
Daniel Hesse delivered a strong start on the mound, allowing just one run over 6.2 innings while striking out four.
Game 2
Mesa bounced back with a 5-3 victory in the second game behind timely hitting and a strong bullpen performance.
Jesse Aguirre led the offense with a 4-for-4 performance and two RBIs, while Shane Lievsay and Luke Mann each drove in a run. The Thunderbirds broke the game open with a three-run sixth inning and added another run in the seventh to take control.
Brad McCurdy earned the win in relief after 0.2 scoreless innings, while Daniel Harris provided three shutout frames to stabilize the game late.
