MCC BASEBALL BATTLES THROUGH WALK-OFF SWINGS, FINISHES WEEK STRONG

Mesa Community College baseball experienced both ends of late-game drama this week, getting walked off in ACCAC play before returning the favor in non-conference action.

MARCH 24 – PARADISE VALLEY 8, MCC 7 (ACCAC)

Mesa jumped out early with a five-run first inning and carried the lead deep into the game, but Paradise Valley rallied late to steal the opener in walk-off fashion launching a walk off grand slam to steal the win.

The T-Birds totaled eight hits, including four doubles, with contributions throughout the lineup. Isaac Low and Noah Allison each drove in runs while Mesa held a 7-4 lead entering the late innings.

Paradise Valley chipped away before a four-run ninth inning capped the comeback, handing MCC a tough conference loss on a walk-off.

MARCH 25 – MCC 12, PARADISE VALLEY 10 (ACCAC)

Mesa responded the next day in another back-and-forth battle, this time flipping the script with a walk-off win of their own. Down four runs going into the bottom of the ninth, the T-Birds put two on before Reid Linkmeyer sent one over the fence to cut the lead to two. After two straight outs, Antonio Spencer-Thompson & Austin Miller each go on base with singles. Jesse Aguirre stepped up to the plate and launched a game winning shot over the righ field fence to send MCC home with a win.

The T-Birds racked up 16 hits, with Antonino Spencer-Thompson leading the way with four hits and Jesse Aguirre driving in four runs, including a home run.

Trailing late, MCC erupted for six runs in the bottom of the ninth to complete the comeback and walk off the Pumas, evening the series.

MARCH 27 – MCC 14, NELSON UNIVERSITY 1 (NON-CONFERENCE)

Mesa carried that momentum into non-conference play, dominating Nelson University in game one of the series.

The T-Birds scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back, finishing with 14 runs on 11 hits. Frank Peralta scored three times while the offense drew 11 walks to keep pressure on throughout.

On the mound, Mesa pitching limited Nelson to just one run while striking out 10 in a complete team effort.

MARCH 28 – MCC 10, NELSON UNIVERSITY 2 (NON-CONFERENCE)

Mesa completed the sweep of Nelson with another strong showing on Saturday.

The T-Birds scored in three different innings before breaking the game open with a seven-run sixth. Despite recording just five hits, MCC capitalized on eight walks and six Nelson errors to plate 10 runs.

Isaac Low drove in three runs, while the pitching staff allowed just two runs on five hits to secure the win.

Mesa now sits at 23-18 overall and 13-13 in ACCAC play.
