Wednesday, December 28, 2022 - 9:00 pm | Dylan Kessler
Mesa, Ariz. - The No. 1 ranked Salt Lake Bruins defeated No. 14 South Plains Wednesday night, 77-76, in an absolute nail-biter.
SLCC had control early on as they started the game on a 9-0 run and led at halftime, 48-36.
The Texans started building some momentum in the second half as they cut the deficit down to two points with just under five minutes remaining and took the lead with 2:10 remaining for the first time on the night.
The last two minutes were a neck-and-neck battle as the Bruins had a one-point lead with 1.9 seconds remaining with SPC inbounding the ball for a chance to win the game.
Christian Coleman for the Texans grabbed the inbounds pass but missed the shot as time expired.
The game will go down as an instant classic and as one of the best games in the history of the MCC Holiday Tournament.
The Bruins will face the winner of the San Bernardino Valley-Seward County game in the championship match tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. The Texans will go up against the loser of SBVC and SCCC tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. in the third-place match.
