Men's Basketball snaps losing streak after win against Phoenix College on Saturday

Mesa Men's Basketball snapped their four game losing streak on Saturday as they took down Phoenix College on the road, 71-69.

In a highly competitive game Mesa shot 23-49 (46.9%) from the floor but just 2-10 (20%) from deep. The Bears were much more successful from distance as they went 13-34 (38.2%) from deep. 

The T-Birds trailed Phoenix at the halftime break 32-31 but outscored PC, 40-37 in the second half to sneak away with the two point victory. 

Clinging to a 70-69 victory Jaleon Israel went to the free throw line with 1:01 left in the game and hit one of two free throws. Mesa was able to deny Phoenix on three straight possessions, Talbot Cummard came up big for Mesa in the second to last possession drawing a charge, Mike Alexander helped seal the victory with great defense on the final possession.

MCC will have their hands full on Wednesday night as they welcome No. 7 Pima into Theo Heap Gymnasium for a conference contest. 

Breakout T-Birds:

  • Talbot Cummard scored 22 points (third time this season with 20 or more points) as he also grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists, and collected four steals.

  • Tyreek Dean had 20 points (second time with twenty or more points) in the game to go along with his four rebounds, four steals, and four assists.

  • Adrien Armstrong scored seven points in the game to go along with his seven rebounds and six assists.

 PC: Matthew Matusak
