Mesa Community College Men's Basketball came up short at home on Saturday, dropping a 73–69 decision to South Mountain Community College in ACCAC Division II action.
Mesa trailed 33–30 at halftime before South Mountain used an efficient second half to secure the road win. The Cougars shot 48.3% from the field after the break, including a strong night from beyond the arc, while holding off multiple Thunderbird pushes down the stretch.
Denali McNeal led all scorers for Mesa with a game-high 30 points, finishing 8-of-13 from the floor and 12-of-13 at the free throw line. Ezias Steffen added 19 points and eight rebounds, while Kashar Benton chipped in eight points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.
Mesa shot 44.9% from the field but was limited to 4-of-16 from three-point range and was outscored 17–4 in bench points. South Mountain was paced by Blake Carabio, who poured in 32 points on 7-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.
With the loss, Mesa moves to 8–6 overall (2-4 ACCAC). The T-Birds are back in action on Saturday as they host Chandler-Gilbert.
