MEN'S BASKETBALL HONORS SOPHOMORE CLASS IN SEASON FINALE

Mesa Community College Men's Basketball recognized its sophomore class Saturday afternoon prior to the team's season finale against South Mountain at MCC. The program honored Peyton Smith, Tyreek Dean, Kashar Benton, Anthony Turner, and Mike Alexander for their contributions to the Thunderbirds over the past two seasons.

Following the pregame ceremony, Mesa battled throughout but fell to South Mountain 82-74 to close out the 2025-26 campaign.

The Thunderbirds (13-13, 7-11 ACCAC) stayed within one possession at halftime, trailing just 37-36 after an efficient opening 20 minutes. South Mountain created separation in the second half behind strong shooting to secure the victory.

Mesa's sophomores led the offensive effort in their final game in a Thunderbird uniform. Peyton Smith paced the team with 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers, while Kashar Benton and Tyreek Dean each added 12 points. Anthony Turner contributed 11 points and three assists, and Mike Alexander finished with eight points.

As a team, Mesa shot 53.3% from the field and converted 19 free throws to remain competitive throughout the contest.
