T-Bird Track & Field adds to their accomplishments at the PV Indoor Invitational

Sunday January 26, 2025 - 8:00 p.m. | Dylan DeVlieger

T-Bird Track & Field competed at the PV Indoor Invitational over the weekend where they added national qualifiers and made history in the process.

Men's Track & Field:

Corbin Pyle not only qualified for the 1000m but he also etched his name in Mesa Track & Field history as he broke the school record in the event. Pyle ran a 2:29.06 finish which shaved off less than a second of the former record set by Andrew McCumber (2:30.05) back in 2020.

Interim head coach Daniel Pescador had nothing but pride in Pyle after his record breaking performance.

"I'm extremely proud of Corbin for breaking the school record in the 1000m! He had a very gutsy run and competed very well," said Pescador.

Caden Hardison qualified for nationals in the 800m as he finished in 1:55.66. The men's 4x800 team of Corbin Pyle, Caden Hardison, Benett Kaup, and Parker Stoft also punched their ticket to nationals.

The men's Distance Medley Relay team of Corbin Pyle, Jaden Laffitte, Caden Hardison, and Calvin Schnepf missed the qualifying time by just .04 seconds as they clocked a time of 10:21.15.

Nick Valle won the 5000m event with a time of 15:30.55, while High Jumper DeAndre Gatlin (2.10m) and Pole Vaulter Shane Ellard (4.48m) each improved their qualifying marks.

Women's Track & Field:

Carmella Baldwin set a PR and punched her ticket to nationals in the 1000m event, clocking a time of 3:05.32. Kinley Jackson qualified in the 5000m event as she finished in 18:38.21.

The Women's Distance Medley Relay team of Regina RaimoKate DareKatie Munoz, and Carmella Baldwin finished in 12:49.31 which was good enough to qualify them for the event.

In the Pole Vault, Madisyn Williams (3.50m) and Anna Brown (3.20m) improved on their nationally qualifying marks.

Coach Pescador is pleased with the way his team has rallied around each other so quickly, he is eager to get more of his T-Birds competing at the national stage.

"I like how everyone is competing very well, and supporting one another. They are definitely taking ownership in coming together as one team, and that's great to see," said Pescador.
