Mesa's No. 6-ranked men's cross country team put together one of its most complete efforts of the season, finishing 2nd overall with 63 points at the UC Riverside Highlander Invite this past Saturday.

Cal Schnepf led the charge with a 1st-place finish in 25:15.4, marking a breakthrough performance as he ran nearly 50 seconds faster than his previous best. Alex Lopez followed closely in 6th (25:39.2), while Dean Haller (19th, 26:12.3), Josef Iker (27th, 26:21.0), and Brady Moar (32nd, 26:26.5) rounded out the scoring five.

Caleb Faba (33rd, 26:30), Edgar Molera-Madril (39th, 26:40.2), and Benett Kaup (49th, 26:52.0) also contributed personal bests in a strong team outing.

Head Coach Daniel Pescador was proud of his men's team following their outstanding performance.

"The men followed the women's race and had one of their best team races all year! They set the tone from the moment they started warming up. They had a sense of urgency, but more importantly togetherness! The men came together and put it out there and truly ran for each other today. Cal and Alex set the pace and everyone else followed. Cal had a big breakthrough to not only run a near 50-second personal best, but very decisively won the race! Alex was not far behind running in the mid 25s as well! I'm very proud of our team effort and how the men competed today! All eight men ran personal bests, and they did it together. We're very excited to see what's to come with two meets left—the Regional/ACCAC Championships and the National Championships," said Pescador.
