OFFENSIVE STRUGGLES DOOMS SOFTBALL SEASON OPENER

Mesa Community College opened the 2026 season with a doubleheader against Glendale Community College, dropping both games in a pair of pitching-driven contests.

GAME 1 — GLENDALE 2, MESA 0

The opener was a tight, low-scoring battle that remained scoreless through seven innings. Glendale broke through with two runs in the top of the eighth to edge Mesa.

Sydnee Taylor turned in a strong seaso opening performance in the circle, going eight innings while allowing just three hits and striking out seven. Offensively, Mesa managed two hits, both coming from Meadow Owens, but couldn't capitalize on limited scoring chances.

GAME 2 — GLENDALE 9, MESA 0

Glendale jumped ahead early in Game 2 and pulled away with multi-run innings to complete the sweep.

Mesa collected three hits in the second contest, with singles from Bristol Bickford, Sammy Alcantar, and Alyssa Antillon. Audra Ashton made the start in the circle, while Shawnacy Serrano worked a scoreless inning in relief.

Mesa will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to take on No. 6 Pima Community College
