Mesa Community College softball earned a Saturday sweep over Chandler-Gilbert, taking game one 6-3 before breaking out offensively in a 15-9 win in game two.
GAME 1: MCC 6, CHANDLER-GILBERT 3
Mesa picked up the opener with a steady offensive approach and strong pitching down the stretch.
The T-Birds totaled nine hits and worked six walks, putting pressure on Chandler-Gilbert throughout the game. MCC broke through with single runs in the second and third innings before using a four-run sixth inning to take control.
Bristol Bickford and Alyssa Antillon each drove in runs, while Sammy Alcantar added a hit and scored. The T-Birds capitalized on three Coyotes errors, turning those opportunities into key late runs.
In the circle, Sydnee Taylor went the distance, allowing just three runs (two earned) while striking out six to secure the win.
GAME 2: MCC 15, CHANDLER-GILBERT 9
Game two turned into an offensive outburst as Mesa exploded for 15 runs on 16 hits.
After falling behind early, the T-Birds responded with a four-run second inning and a six-run third to flip the game. Mesa continued to add on with a five-run fifth inning, scoring in three different frames to build separation.
Meadow Owens led the way with three hits, three runs scored, and two RBI. Sammy Alcantar delivered a triple and three RBI, while Alyssa Antillon drove in four runs. Skylnn Salazar-Bell added two doubles and two RBI as part of a balanced attack up and down the lineup.
In the circle, Mesa used multiple pitchers before Taylor came in and stabilized things, earning the win with four strong innings of relief.
With the sweep, MCC improves to 10-22 overall and 7-19 in ACCAC play.
The T-Birds return to action Tuesday on the road at Paradise Valley Community College.
