Mesa, AZ – The Mesa track and field athletes involved in the weight events are in outstanding coaching hands these days with the addition of Ryan Whiting to the staff.
Whiting is a world-renowned shot put athlete who has won world and U.S. championships during his career.
"We're really excited to have Ryan as part of our coaching staff," said head coach Steve Jacobs. "With his experience it's a great learning opportunity for our weight athletes.
Whiting is a two-time world indoor shot put champion, in 2012 and 2014. The graduate of Arizona State also set the NCAA indoor shot put record and was an eight-time All-American for the Sun Devils.
Whiting was the top American shot putter for several years, winning three indoor championships and one outdoor from 2011-14.
"I'm really excited about being a part of the MCC program," he said. "Mesa has a great tradition and a great facility and I hope to assist coach Jacobs in keeping that going.
He will handle all of the T-Bird weight events except the javelin.
