Mesa, AZ - The #4 Mesa Thunderbirds women's basketball team opened up ACCAC Region play Tuesday night with a victory over Tohono O'odham, 61-48.
Paced by freshman Jacie Salabiye's career high 18 points, Mesa again used a solid second half to get past a fiesty Jego's team.
Aiding Salabiye on the offensive side was sophomore forward Diamond Fuller, who finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and two block shots. Iris Domebo finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
The Jego's took a 27-25 lead into halftime but the T-Birds thrive when it comes to the second half because they outscored Tohono O'odham, 36-21 in the second half, with Mesa scoring 21 points alone in the fourth quarter.
Mesa moves to 2-5 on the young season. The T-Birds will have the holiday weekend off then be back in action next Wednesday night at Central Arizona College, beginning at 5:30 pm.
