Mesa Community College Athletics wants to wish you and your family a fun and tasty Thanksgiving!
No. 9 Mesa Women's Basketball kept rolling Tuesday night as they took down DI opponent No. 14 Cochise College, 47-46.
The Lady T-Birds extended their winning streak to three games after a thrilling win over the Apaches.
Going into the halftime break Mesa trailed, 29-18 after allowing Cochise to shoot 48.9% from the floor while just 26.1% themselves. Mesa allowed 20 points in the first quarter, a season high so far this season.
The third quarter the T-Birds seemed to regain their footing as they outscored the Apaches, 17-5 while holding them to just 11.1% shooting from the field. MCC took a one point lead into the final period.
The fourth quarter had both teams evenly matched as each team scored 12 points. Amya Bekele hit two clutch three-pointers for Mesa and Kamiyah Hurd was a force as she had five rebounds in the quarter to go along with six points, her final two being the difference maker for the T-Birds.
With 14 seconds left Mesa held a 45-44 lead but a costly turnover would lead to an Apaches bucket to take a one point advantage with three seconds left. Out of the inbounds pass Kamiyah Hurd drove to the lane and was fouled, giving her two free throws which she sank giving Mesa a one point advantage with less than a second left.
Cochise drew up an inbounds play out of their timeout to give them a shot at the buzzer, but it would not connect as Mesa took the contest, 47-46.
With the win Mesa improved their record to 6-2 (2-0 ACCAC). MCC will have a nice break from the court over the holiday and will get back to action against Glendale at home on Wednesday, Dec 4.
