No. 3 Women's Basketball lost their first conference game of the season on Saturday as they fell to No. 11 Pima, 66-55.
Mesa failed to take care of the ball in the wire-to-wire loss to the Aztecs. MCC coughed it up 23 times which resulted in 27 points for Pima.
The T-Birds won the battle on the glass 33-29 over the Aztecs, but Pima shot the ball much better than Mesa as they hit their shots at a 48% clip compared to MCC's 34%.
The Aztec starters all contributed to the victory over Mesa as four of the five scored double figures. Rori Hoffmeyer was the only starter who didn't score 10 or more points but she came up big on the glass as she grabbed 12 rebounds, nine of them offensive.
Throughout the game Mesa would fall behind by as much as 13 points but would find ways to cut the lead to within two points. Storming back and keeping it close was all Mesa seemed to be able to do as they were never able to swing the momentum fully in their favor.
Britany Kogbara earned another double-double in the contest as she scored 16 points and grabbed a season high 17 rebounds.
With the loss Mesa's record fell to 22-7 (16-1 ACCAC). Even with the defeat MCC will still be the No. 1 seed in the Region I DII Postseason starting on March 6. The T-Birds will finish out their regular season on Wednesday as they travel to take on South Mountain.
