Mesa Women's Basketball earned a hard-fought road win on Wednesday night, defeating Arizona Western 43–33 behind a lockdown defensive surge over the final two quarters. The victory improves the T-Birds to 2–3 on the season.

After trailing 16–6 after the first quarter and entering halftime down 26–18, Mesa completely flipped the momentum with a suffocating defensive effort. The T-Birds held Arizona Western to just five points in the third quarter and delivered a near-perfect fourth, allowing zero field goals as AWC went 0-for-16 in the final frame. The Matadors managed only two points in the entire fourth quarter, both at the free-throw line. Mesa outscored Arizona Western 25–7 in the second half, turning an eight-point deficit into a ten-point win.

Freshman Sydnee Patterson posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Amya Bekele added 12 points and hit five free throws. Maddy Brown added six points and six boards, and Lakeisha Robinson provided six points off the bench. Mesa forced 22 turnovers, converting them into 20 points, and held Arizona Western to 28.9% shooting for the game.

Mesa returns home on Saturday to host Yavapai College. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at Theo Heap Gymnasium.
