MCC Women's Soccer lost for the first time this season on Saturday at the hands of Glendale, 2-1.
It just didn't seem like Mesa's night as their 2-1 loss was not indicative of what was done on the field. MCC had 18 shots on goal to Glendale's six, but when it came time to put one past the keeper, the Gauchos executed.
In the 21st minute Isabella Colmenero's shot outside the box found the back of the net as MCC Keeper Kennedy Birk was just a fraction late to deflect the attempt. Both teams would remain scoreless throughout the rest of the first half and into the second until Mesa's Claire Herbert put the T-Birds on the board.
Herbert's shot (assisted by Damaris Rodriguez Ortiz) was high enough to deflect off the hands of the Gauchos keeper and into the net to tie the contest at one each.
It seemed as the momentum had swung in the T-Birds favor as they had multiple shots that they just could not convert into goals. Mesa was also playing at an advantage as just after Herbert's goal, Lluvia Ramirez of Glendale received a red card.
As the clock creeped closer to zero both teams desperately tried to land a knockout blow and in the 87th minute GCC would connect as Gixiabby Medrano put her team up, 2-1 after converting a penalty kick.
In the final minutes MCC desperately tried to answer the Gauchos goal but to no avail as Mesa would run out of time.
With the loss the T-Birds record falls to 2-1 on the year (2-1 ACCAC) and will have their biggest test of the season up to this point next as they host Pima on Tuesday.
