The Mesa Community College women's soccer team kicked off its 2025 season with a strong defensive showing, earning a 1–0 victory on the road against Arizona Christian University's JV squad on Tuesday night.
The Thunderbirds wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. In the 8th minute, Daniella Orellana scored the lone goal of the match off an assist from Iris Gonzalez, giving Mesa an early advantage they would hold the rest of the way.
Defensively, Mesa controlled the match, limiting Arizona Christian JV to just one shot on goal.
Mesa generated seven shots and forced six saves from the Firestorms keeper. Despite not adding to the scoreline, the early strike proved to be enough as the Thunderbirds secured the 1–0 win to pick up their first win on the season.
Mesa will be back in action on Saturday night at home as they host Gillette College in their final non-conference contest of the season.
