Women's Soccer picks up first conference win on Saturday

MCC Women's Soccer secured a decisive 3–0 victory over Gateway on Saturday night at John D. Riggs Stadium, improving to 2-5-1 overall (1-3-1 ACCAC). 

After a scoreless first half, the Thunderbirds broke through in the 49th minute when Iris Gonzalez cleaned up a rebound to put Mesa on the board. Minutes later, Daniella Orellana doubled the lead with a successful penalty kick in the 55th minute. MCC sealed the match in the 80th minute as Alexis Vogel finished a setup from Gonzalez to close out the 3–0 win.

Mesa dominated statistically, outshooting Gateway 28–5 with 16 shots on goal. Vogel led the attack with nine shots and one goal, while Orellana and Gonzalez each added a goal apiece. Goalkeeper Ellie Huish recorded a two-save clean sheet to backstop the Thunderbird defense.

The Thunderbirds return to the pitch Tuesday night as they host No. 6 Phoenix College.
