MCC WOMEN’S TENNIS SWEEPS GLENDALE, IMPROVES TO 4-0 IN ACCAC PLAY
Mesa Community College women's tennis continued its dominant run through conference play on Tuesday, sweeping Glendale 9-0 to remain undefeated at 4-0 in the ACCAC.
The Thunderbirds controlled the match from the start, taking all available doubles points before carrying that momentum into singles play.
In doubles, the pairing of Lucia Madrid-Schleicher and Jeslyn Berry earned an 8-0 win at the top flight, setting the tone early. Mesa also picked up additional points by default to secure the doubles sweep.
Singles play was just as commanding for the T-Birds, who did not drop a set in contested matches.Lucia Madrid-Schleicher led the way at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, while Karla Ornelas followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2. Ava Fragua continued the dominance at No. 3, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Jeslyn Berry, Josephine Shinkle, and Aliana Kelsey each added singles wins by default to complete the sweep.
Mesa's depth and consistency were on full display, overwhelming Glendale across the lineup and continuing a strong stretch of conference play.
Head coach Feroz Rast praised the team's continued dominance following the match.
"So proud of the ladies as they continue to dominate conference play. Freshman Lucia Madrid-Schleicher came in strong in both singles and doubles and we followed her lead to a big win! Looking forward to us taking on the challenge of OUAZ on Friday."
The T-Birds will look to keep the momentum as they take on Ottawa on Friday.
