T-BIRDS DELIVER BIG PERFORMANCES AT CARVEL JACKSON SHOWCASE
Mesa Community College Track & Field turned in a strong showing at the Carvel Jackson Memorial Track & Field Showcase, highlighted by personal records, national qualifiers, and a school record on the home track.
The day opened with a statement performance from Holden Bundy, who posted a personal best of 60.70 meters in the javelin.
In the throws, Maleah Tucker continued her strong season with a personal record of 51.26 meters in the hammer.
On the track, Deng Majak delivered a breakthrough performance in the 800 meters, clocking 1:51.46 to hit the national qualifying standard. Corbin Pyle followed with an impressive 1:49.72 in the 800, finishing just shy of the school record.
Lucy Melzer highlighted the meet with a standout double performance. She ran 2:13.95 in the 800 meters, narrowly missing the school record, before returning to set a new school record in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:37.97. Melzer broke the previous record of 4:39.51 set by Beth Cook in 1996.
Katie Munoz added to the distance success with a personal best and national qualifier in the 1500 meters, finishing in 4:44.03.
In the steeplechase, both Kinley Jackson and Cal Schnepf secured national qualifying marks. Jackson crossed in 11:39.58, while Schnepf posted a 9:31.60.
The meet marked a significant moment for the program, not only for the performances on the track but for what it represented.
"Extremely proud and honored to have named the meet after coach Jackson, and that we were able to have the family in attendance," said head coach Daniel Pescador. "It was our first large invitational home meet in years, and it was fitting to name it after Coach Jackson. It was a huge success and very competitive meet."
MCC Track & Field is back in action on Friday at the ACCAC Championships, hosted at Mesa Community College.
