WOMEN’S 4X800 RELAY TEAM BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD, EARNS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS

The Mesa Community College women's 4x800 relay team delivered a historic performance at the NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships as Lucy Melzer, Kinley Jackson, Marley Peay and Katie Munoz set the school record with a time of 9:19.05.

The Thunderbirds placed fifth overall in the national championship race to earn NJCAA All-American honors while etching their names into the Mesa record books.

Competing against the top junior college programs in the country at New Mexico Junior College, the T-Birds put together one of the top relay performances in program history. The group combined strong opening splits, steady middle legs and a powerful finish to secure a top-five national finish.

The record-breaking run adds another accomplishment to an already standout season for Mesa distance runners, as the Thunderbirds continued to make their presence felt on the national stage.

Melzer, Jackson, Peay and Munoz now stand as the fastest women's 4x800 relay team in Mesa Community College history while also bringing home All-American honors for their fifth-place finish at the NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
