Mesa, AZ - The #16 Mesa Thunderbirds found their winnings way Wednesday night as they defeated the Pima Aztecs in four sets, 25-19, 25-27, 25-21, 25-23.
Being tied at 12 in the first set, Mesa pulled away, taking the next three points to make it a 15-12 contest, forcing a Pima timeout. The T-Birds held steady at a three point lead to take set one.
In set two, once again tied at 12, this time it was Pima who pulled away, taking a 20-17 advantage at one point. Mesa however tied it at 23 and after tying at points 23, 24 and 25, Pima finalized the set with the final two points.
Sets three and four saw back and forth action throughout as neither team took a manageable lead over seven. In set four, with the scored tied at 23, Mesa rallied of the final two points to secure the match win.
Mesa now moves to 6-2 on the season with a 2-0 conference record. The Birds will have the rest of the week off and won't be back in action till next Wednesday night when they travel to Scottsdale for a 7 pm contest.
