No. 13 Mesa Community College volleyball opened the 2025 season in convincing fashion, sweeping South Mountain Community College 3–0 (25–8, 25–11, 25–11) at Theo Heap Gymnasium Saturday night.
The Thunderbirds were efficient on offense, hitting .316 as a team, with a dominant .481 mark in the first set and .400 in the third. Mesa finished with 33 kills, 31 assists, and 7 service aces, while holding South Mountain to just 30 total points across the three frames.

The victory marks the start of Mesa's Region I title defense after capturing the championship in 2024. The Thunderbirds improve to 1–0 (0-0 ACCAC). Mesa will now turn its attention to a tough road test at Division I opponent Arizona Western College on Wednesday.
