Bio
Jordan Abalos Herrington became the head coach of Mesa Community College's women's indoor and beach volleyball programs in 2022 and has since built both into highly competitive teams. In her first season with the indoor program, the Thunderbirds finished 5-13 overall and 4-11 in ACCAC play, just missing the postseason with a fifth-place conference finish. In year two, her squad improved to 11-15 overall and 7-9 in conference play, again narrowly missing the playoffs. The program took a major leap in Herrington’s third season, finishing 21-13 overall and 11-7 in the ACCAC while capturing the Region I Championship as the No. 4 seed in the regional tournament.
On the beach volleyball side, Herrington made an immediate impact in her first season by guiding the team to a 13-9 record and an undefeated 3-0 mark in conference play. The Beach Birds won the Region I title and earned a trip to the NJCAA Beach Volleyball National Championship, where they placed sixth nationally. In her second season, MCC improved to 16-14 overall and finished fifth at nationals. The third year saw the program reach new heights, ending the season with a 17-11 record and a third-place finish at the NJCAA Championship — the best in program history.
In addition to her coaching duties, Herrington serves as the advisor for Mesa’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C), helping student-athletes develop leadership skills, engage in campus initiatives, and represent the voice of athletics within the college community.
Before joining MCC, Herrington served as the head beach volleyball coach at Benedictine University in Mesa from January 2021 to January 2022. During that same time period, she was also the head varsity volleyball coach at Skyline High School. Her earlier coaching stops included time at Estrella Foothills High School as a secondary education English teacher, varsity assistant indoor coach, and head beach coach from July 2019 to May 2020. From August 2020 to December 2020, she led the varsity volleyball program at ALA–Queen Creek. Additionally, she worked as a coordinator for East Valley Juniors Beach Volleyball Club from July 2020 through July 2021.
Herrington grew up in Safford, Arizona, and graduated from Safford High School before continuing her playing career at New Mexico State University, where she competed from 2014 to 2017 in indoor volleyball. She helped the Aggies earn an NCAA Tournament appearance and served as team captain in her final two seasons. A two-time All-WAC First Team selection, Herrington was active in leadership roles as a SAAC Volleyball Representative and member of the team’s Leadership Council. She also began coaching during her senior year, assisting with the Diamondback Volleyball Club. Herrington graduated from NMSU with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
Following her time at NMSU, Herrington transferred to the University of Arizona, where she played beach volleyball during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. She continued her involvement in leadership as a member of the Wildcats’ Leadership Council and earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership. She later completed a second master’s degree in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University.
Currently, Herrington is the club director and owner of AZ3 Volleyball Club based in Mesa. She is married to Dalton Herrington and enjoys spending her free time outdoors with her husband and their two golden retrievers, Hank and Ace. She’s also a dedicated supporter of her younger sisters' athletic pursuits, saying, “If I am not in the gym, I am either with my husband and two golden retrievers Hank and Ace or spending time watching my sisters play sports.”
