Mesa Soccer posts two shutout wins over Gateway

Mesa Soccer walked away with two shutout victories on Tuesday night over Gateway as the men and women continued their push to the postseason.
Men's Soccer:
MCC took down Gateway, 8-0 and improved their record to 6-3-1 (6-3-1 ACCAC).
Mesa dominated the Geckos throughout the match putting up four goals in each half while tallying 17 shots on goal for the night.
Isaac Semini started the scoring as he snuck one in past the keeper in the 20th minute, Austin Manwaring assisted by Josh Quezada scored in the 30th minute, Gateway surrendered an own goal caused by Manwaring in the 36th minute, and just before halftime Caden Dosmann scored on a penalty kick.
In the second half Mesa did not take their foot off the gas as Joelouis Guzman scored in the 46th minute thanks to a Caden Dosmann assist, Zachary Lanman pounded a shot into the nylon thanks to a Guzman assist, Vasilios Apostolos scored in the 76th minute, and Julian Lopez scored a tap in just before the match ended in the 88th minute.
Defensively the T-Birds were stout, only surrendering two shots on goal both saved by keepers Jordan Hagen and Landon Johnson.
The win keeps Mesa on the heels of Glendale in the standings as they currently hold the third and fourth slots in the DII standings. If Mesa can secure the win over the Gauchos on Saturday night, they will put themselves in prime position to take over the three seed down the stretch.
Women's Soccer:
The Lady T-Birds took care of business on Tuesday posting their third shutout victory of the season taking down the Geckos, 5-0. With the win Mesa improved their record to 5-5 (5-4 ACCAC).
Totaling the most shots (30) and shots on goal in a single game (26). Mesa scored early and often as Brylee Allen got the offense started in the 5th minute poking one past the Gateway keeper. Claire Herbert would follow in the 22nd minute thanks to an Karen Reyes assist in the 22nd minute, Rylee Lawson would find the nylon in the 29th minute thanks to a Nora Robles assist, and just before half Lawson would come back for seconds as she scored her second goal of the game in the 35th minute.
In the second half Mesa was able to put another goal on the board as Kylie Gunnoe scored thanks to a Lawson and Hough assist.
Defensively the T-Birds locked down their end of the field only allowing five shots and surrendering zero goals.
Just like the T-Bird men, the ladies took care of a game that needed to keep their playoff hopes alive. They will play in one of the biggest games of the season on Saturday as they travel to take on the Gauchos, a team that took a 2-1 victory away from Mesa early in the season and a team in possession of the 4th and final playoff position.
