MESA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ROLLS PAST YAVAPAI IN 115–40 ROUT

Mesa Women's Basketball delivered its most complete performance of the young season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Yavapai College 115–40 at Theo Heap Gymnasium. The Thunderbirds controlled every phase of the game, shooting nearly 50% from the field while holding the Roughriders to just 32.6% shooting and forcing 33 turnovers .

Mesa produced a 31–9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, stacking 24 points in both the second and third quarters before closing with a dominant 36-point fourth frame. Ten different T-Birds scored, and Mesa knocked down 19 three-pointers — its highest total of the season — while outrebounding Yavapai 42–31.

Mesa opened the afternoon on a 19–2 run, combining defensive pressure with efficient perimeter scoring. The Thunderbirds hit 60% from the field in the opening quarter and 55.6% from three, setting the tone for a wire-to-wire performance that saw the team assist on 28 made baskets.

The offense remained steady through all four quarters, shooting 49.4% overall and 55.9% from beyond the arc. Mesa's full-court pressure overwhelmed Yavapai, generating turnovers that led to 39 points off giveaways and a 20–4 advantage in second-chance opportunities.

Stat leaders:

  • Amya Bekele: 23 points (9-for-12 FG, 5-for-7 3PT), 3 assists

  • Sydnee Patterson: 16 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists (near triple-double)

  • Jordan Watts: 14 points, 3 assists

  • Meisha Caserio: 14 points, 3 rebounds

  • Carmella Gallardo: 15 points (5-for-6 3PT)

  • Lakeisha Robinson: 12 points, 4 rebounds

  • Maddy Brown: 6 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists

  • Mesa's defensive effort was just as complete, holding Yavapai to 1-of-11 from three and limiting the Roughriders to single digits in three of the four quarter.

MCC will be back in action on Dec. 3 on the road as they open conference action against Chandler-Gilbert.
