Gilbert, AZ - It was a nice way to end the regular season for the post-season bound Mesa Thunderbirds women's soccer team as they notched a 5-0 victory at Chandler-Gilbert Saturday night.
With the win, Mesa will finish as the ACCAC DII #4 seed, finishing behind #1 Phoenix College, #2 Pima and #3 Scottsdale.
Being the four seed means the T-Birds will travel to Phoenix College next Tuesday night for the semi-final round of the ACCAC DII playoffs. These two teams play a fantastic match earlier in the season, the only time they met, to a 1-0 Phoenix College victory that went into two overtimes.
Saturday night, Mesa recorded its fourth shutout of the season, defeating the Coyotes with a big second half. Rylee Rottweiler started the scoring in the first half, netting Mesa's only goal of the half, with the assist coming from Kennedy Kmetko. Roles were reversed for the T-Birds second goal as Kmetko scored with the assist coming from Rottweiler.
The next two T-Bird goals came off the foot of Annabella Bara, pushing Mesa's lead to 4-0. The final goal was scored by Sarah Rich.
Mesa finishes the season with an 8-6-2 overall record and a 5-2-2 conference record.
