No. 12 Volleyball sweeps Pima on Friday

The No. 12 Mesa Community College volleyball team continued its strong run in conference play, sweeping Pima Community College in straight sets on Friday night at Theo Heap Gymnasium (25-12, 25-18, 25-22). The victory pushed the Thunderbirds to 9-2 overall (3-0 ACCAC).

Mesa was efficient on the attack, finishing with a .237 hitting percentage and 27 total kills. Lindsey Leavitt led the way with nine kills on .444 hitting, while Marley Cortez added five kills and 10 digs. Isa Folau chipped in five kills of her own, and Gracie McArthur provided a major spark with a highly efficient .625 hitting clip (5 kills on 8 swings).

Setter Isabella Jackson paced the offense with 14 assists, three aces, and four digs, while Etta Henson chipped in seven assists and an ace. Defensively, libero Brianna Anderson anchored the back line with 17 digs, while Melody Jones and McArthur combined for four blocks.

The Thunderbirds dominated early with a .500 hitting percentage in the opening set, then held off a late Pima push in the third to complete the sweep in front of the home crowd.

Mesa will be back in action on the road on Wednesday as they travel to take on No. 18 Glendale.
