No. 10 Mesa outlasts No. 22 Scottsdale in five set thriller

No. 10 MCC Volleyball pulled out a gritty five-set win over Scottsdale Community College on Wednesday night at Theo Heap Gymnasium, taking the match 18-25, 25-19, 25-21, 24-26, 15-11. The victory pushed the Thunderbirds to 13-2 overall (5-0 ACCAC).

Isa Folau delivered a standout performance, finishing with 20 kills on .358 hitting to go along with 21 digs and two service aces. Marley Cortez was also a force, adding 16 kills and 12 digs, while Lindsey Leavitt chipped in 13 kills and three blocks. Gracie McArthur hit .333 with eight kills and added four blocking assists in the middle.

Setter Isabella Jackson kept the offense steady with 32 assists and 15 digs, while Etta Henson added 19 assists. Defensively, Brianna Anderson anchored the back row with 19 digs.

Mesa showed resilience after dropping the opening set, rallying to take the next two. Following a narrow 26-24 loss in the fourth, the T-Birds closed out the decisive fifth set.

The Thunderbirds will continue conference action on Friday as they travel to take on South Mountain.
