The No. 10-ranked Mesa Community College Volleyball team put together a dominant week, defeating two nationally ranked Region I opponents No. 11 Glendale and No. 16 Scottsdale to extend their strong late-season form.
Mesa sweeps No. 11 Glendale (25-16, 25-14, 25-22)
The Thunderbirds opened the week at home with a commanding straight-set win over Glendale CC. Mesa hit .196 as a team while holding the Gauchos to just .018.
Sophomore Lindsey Leavitt led the attack with 11 kills (.333), followed by Aolani Motu (7 kills, .222) and Gracie McArthur (6 kills, .333). Setter Isabella Jackson ran a balanced offense with 28 assists and 10 digs, while Brianna Anderson anchored the defense with 12 digs.
Mesa's serve pressure and efficiency at the net kept Glendale on its heels, recording 3 solo and 4 assisted blocks to remain unbeaten in ACCAC play at 10-0
Mesa defeats No. 16 Scottsdale 3-1 (18-25, 25-20, 28-26, 25-11)
Two nights later, the Thunderbirds traveled to Scottsdale and rallied after dropping the opening set to take three straight.
Isa Folau powered the offense with 12 kills (.250) and 3 aces, while Lindsey Leavitt added 11 kills and 8 digs. Gracie McArthur (10 kills, .320) and Aolani Motu (8 kills, .312) provided key balance at the net. Isabella Jackson dished 43 assists and posted 17 digs for a double-double, and Brianna Anderson collected 27 digs to lead all players.
Mesa's offense hit .222 overall and dominated the fourth set 25-11 to seal the win, their second victory of the week against a ranked opponent.
With the wins MCC improved their record to 19-6 (11-0 ACCAC).
The T-Birds are back in action on Tuesday in their conference season finale against South Mountain CC.
