No. 14 Mesa Men's Soccer rolled over Gateway in their home opener on Tuesday, 6-1.
The T-Birds scored in bunches as Zakari Smith scored in the 16th and 20th minute, while teammate Zachary Lanman got in on the action in the 21st. Both of Smith's goals were assisted by Joseph Rodriguez, bringing his season total to three. Davis Turner was credited with the assist on Lanman's goal.
Mesa cruised into a 4-1 halftime lead after Elliott Katz put one past the keeper courtesy of a Josh Quezada assist in the 41st minute.
In the second half the T-Birds would not allow another goal but would increase their advantage as Isaac Semini (assisted by Edgar Anya Perez), and Natha Briseno (penalty kick) each scored.
With the win Mesa improved their record to 2-0 (2-0 ACCAC) and will face their toughest test so far this season on Saturday as they host a 2-0 Glendale team.
